Set the bulb on top of the soil, filling in around the bulb to hold it in place. Leave the top third of the bulb exposed above the soil level and allow room in the pot for watering. Amaryllis bulbs prefer normal room temperatures, and exposure to bright light helps keep the stems shorter. As the flower stalk grows toward the light, rotate the pot frequently to prevent toppling.
